Revenge or Repeat – Watt vs Ilijoski 2
Rematch – Chris “Killer” Watt vs Alex Ilijoski – Rebellion Muay Thai, Melbourne November 30.
Two technicians go head to head again in Melbourne. As history has it, Chris Watt defeated Alex Ilijoski in October 2018 via unanimous decision for the middleweight Australian title at home in Perth.
Almost 13 months later, they meet again, this time Watt heads across the Nullarbor to face Ilijoski in his home town of Melbourne. November 30, Muay Thai fans are treated to one of the biggest platforms of Muay Thai – Rebellion Muay Thai – the brainchild of mastermind Sy Nadji watched by tens of thousands around the world.
What makes this match ever-so tantalising is the statistics on paper:
* Alex Ilijoski holds a close to 87% win rate of 20 wins from 23 bouts. There have only ever been two men to defeat him: Queensland’s Benny Mahoney, (who has recently changed code to boxing), and the other – Chris Watt. The only third man close to beating Ilijoski was current Australian Junior Middleweight Champion Luis Regis which resulted in a draw on Rebellion Back in March 2018.
* Chris Watt holds a record of 16-8-0 with a five-fight win streak, his last defeat over two years ago (June 2017) to Champion Luis Regis where he suffered a round 2 referee stoppage for the Junior Middleweight Australian title. It was the last time Watt would compete in the Junior Middleweight (69.85kg) division before moving up to the middleweight (72.5kg) division, a more favourable division given his muscular physique, where Watt has had a 100% success rate thus far.
Could we see Watt vs Regis 2 in the near future? Only time will tell…
In the last 12 months Chris Watt has worked to improve his game with victories over WA’s Alex Job and NSW’s Franz Sanchez. Illijoski returns to the ring for the first time since their first encounter in October 2018 with a brief hiatus from the sport.
Chris Watt vs Alex Ilijoski – Will it be revenge or repeat? Make sure you tune in and enjoy the action!
Either way, it will be one to watch.
